Hotelplan and Royal Caribbean in mental health pledge

Hotelplan and Royal Caribbean International are the latest travel firms to pledge support to mental health initiatives in the workplace.

Employees at Hotelplan, parent of operators Inghams, Total Ski, Esprit and Santa’s Lapland, marked Mental Health Awareness Week with a pub quiz, barbecue and ‘Wear what makes you happy’ day. Hotelplan also has 12 mental health first-aiders.

HR manager Sara Bravery said: “Working is such a big part of your life. It’s really important you can be happy and content there and if you’re not, or if anything’s troubling you, it’s important you know there
is someone you can speak to.”

Staff at Royal Caribbean shared their personal stories surrounding mental health issues last week, which were shared in a video circulated across the company.

Kelly Ashby, wellbeing and ability employee resource group lead, said the move “encouraged new conversations around mental health between colleagues” and drew attention to support that is available.

The initiatives come after Travel Weekly launched its Mental Health Matters campaign, which will focus on promoting positive mental health in the workplace.
