Haslemere Travel suffers break-in

Haslemere Travel has been broken into for the second time in six weeks.

Thieves broke into the Surrey-based independent agency at around 3:30am on the morning of June 19.

They stole “nothing of major significance”, but got away with some African artefacts and small change in a top drawer.

Owner Gemma Antrobus, who is chair of Aito Agents, told Travel Weekly: “We had the front door smashed with a massive rock it also tore up part of the carpet where it must have hit the ground with some force.”

The break-in did not mean the shop had to close.

Antrobus said: “It hasn’t affected what we do, we sell dreams and memories, we don’t have a tangible element.”

The agency was also broken into on May 19 at around the same time of night.

Staff have received support from the local community and the trade with a nearby café bringing round cakes and a local councillor paying a visit.

Antrobus added: “Our industry friends have been supportive and many said they were ‘sorry to hear the news’.”

The agency has received advice from investigating police regarding crime prevention, CCTV and security.
