Small group touring specialist Back-Roads Touring has added its first Japan itineraries to its Asia programme.

The 2020-21 Asia Small Group Tours brochure also features holidays in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, with a maximum of 18 guests on each trip.

The Highlights of Japan holiday takes clients from the capital Tokyo to Kyoto and Osaka, offering the chance to travel on the bullet train and visit the medieval castle of Matsumoto.

It costs from £3,032 which includes 10 nights’ accommodation and ground transport.

The Gardens of Japan tour travels from Osaka to Tokyo, visiting sites such as the bamboo groves of Kyoto’s Arashiyama district, and Kenrokuen Garden, known as one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan.

It costs from £3,539 including eight nights’ accommodation.

The other itineraries in the brochure are Southeast Asian Journey; Stories of Southeast Asia; Vietnam & Cambodia Discovery; Flavours of Vietnam; and Wonders of Thailand.

David Gendle, general manager, said: “Japan is forever growing in popularity as a destination travellers from around the world are eager to explore – something our latest consumer research has only reinforced, highlighting [the fact that] more than two-thirds of mature travellers rank Japan as the number one Asian country they would most like to visit.

“From the futuristic cityscape of Tokyo and the temples of Kyoto, to the gastronomic wonderland of Osaka, we pride ourselves on our offering of truly unforgettable holiday experiences that feed the curiosity of mature travellers.”
