Tui flies 35 sick children to Lapand after losing Thomas Cook booking

Tui flew 35 sick children and their families to Lapland after their Thomas Cook booking was lost.

Children’s charity, When You Wish Upon a Star, had booked flights with Thomas Cook Airlines to take the group away to meet Santa before Christmas.

After the travel giant’s demise Tui stepped in and arranged for the children and their relatives to fly from East Midlands Airport earlier this month.

Tui staff also organised a pre-departure party at the gate.

On board television personality and charity patron Jeremy Spake, Emmerdale stars Natalie Robb, Ash Palmisciano and Jonny McPherson also joined the flight.

Dawn Wilson, managing director at Tui Airways said: “We are extremely proud to support the incredible work that When You Wish Upon a Star carries out for deserving children in the UK.

“We know how much this trip means to the families and were delighted that we could help make it possible for them to fly to Lapland.”

Karen Martt, general manager from When You Wish Upon a Star, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Tui for coming to the rescue after the sad demise of Thomas Cook so we could take this flight to Lapland for the brave and courageous children and their families.

“It is a dream for most of the children to meet Santa at his home and to have the amazing opportunity to ride on the huskies, reindeers and sledging in the snow.”
