Pegasus Airlines aircraft skids off runway

Operations at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport were suspended after an aircraft skidded off a runway in bad weather.

No-one was reported to be hurt in the incident involving a Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737 on Tuesday morning.

All 164 passengers on the aircraft were evacuated safely and there were no injuries.

The aircraft had been travelling from Sharjah international airport.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office reported cancellations and disruption to flights at Sabiha Gokcen airport until it re-opened last night.

Pegasus Airlines confirmed that one of its aircraft “experienced a runway excursion” after landing and all passengers and crew disembarked safely.

An investigation has been launched and the airline is laying on extra flights today due to the disruption caused.

Turkish Airlines flights were among those either suspended or redirected.
