Royal Caribbean scraps this year’s Canada, New England and Alaska sailings

Royal Caribbean is cancelling all of this year’s sailings to Canada, New England and Alaska.

The decision follows the Canadian government extending its restriction on cruise ships carrying more than 100 passengers until October 31 as part of Covid-19 prevention measures.

As a result, Celebrity Cruises’ 2020 sailings to Canada and Alaska and as well as “notable” autumn itineraries such as Canada/New England, Hawaii and a few repositioning cruises must be cancelled.

Celebrity parent Royal Caribbean Cruises said: “We are working with public health agencies and governments to ensure a safe return to service, and look forward to setting sail from and to these destinations next year.”

Many lines have already cancelled Alaska itineraries as part of the global postponement of all cruises to limit the spread of the virus.

Royal Caribbean Cruises extended the suspension of most sailings in May until July 31, with the exception of sailings from China, which will be suspended to the end of this month.

The owner of Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Azamara and Siversea said at the time that it expected to return to service on August 1.

But P&O Cruises announced on Tuesday a further extension of sailings until mid-October, wiping out the entire summer season.
