Industry leaders have been lined up for the first in a series of Tui Care Foundation webinars discussing the challenges imposed on the sector by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The September 28 event features Intrepid Travel chairman and co-founder Darrell Wade, Planeterra Foundation president Jamie Sweeting, Travel Foundation chief executive Jeremy Sampson and Tui Care Foundation board member Nico Visser.
The one-hour panel tourism for development discussion will cover the impact of the virus and the opportunities for the industry to grow sustainably while strengthening local resilience.
The initiative comes against a backdrop of a 65% in international tourist arrivals in the first half of the year as a result of lockdowns and travel restrictions.
Other events are planned weekly until November 10.
Visser said: “Although some destinations around the world are preparing to lift restrictions on travel and mobility, the travel and tourism sector still faces many challenges before it can resume its activity globally.
“With so many lessons to be learnt from the pandemic, we aim to put the topic of inclusive development of our holiday destinations at the very centre of discussions on the future of tourism.”
