World Travel Holdings staff ‘walk to Miami’ in charity challenge

Staff at cruise specialist World Travel Holdings UK are undertaking a 22-day charity challenge to walk ten million steps.

The holding company of Cruise118.com, SixStarCruises.co.uk and RiverVoyages.com set the challenge last month to walk the equivalent distance from the head office in Chorley, Lancashire to Miami.

Five teams totalling 50 employees have reached more than nine million steps during the latest lockdown in England with five days left to go.

They are raising funds for local charity Derian House Hospice which provides respite and end-of-life care to more than 400 children and young people across the north-west.

Staff have been sharing regular updates on Twitter and LinkedIn, charting their progress across the Atlantic.

Managing director Alison Earnshaw, who joined the initiative as team leader for one of the five teams, said: “We have team spirit in abundance at WTH (UK) and this is just one way we are able to come together for a great cause, whilst helping our health and mental well-being at the same time.

“The spirit of the challenge is to welcome all and encourage everyone to achieve by committing to their own personal pledge, whether that’s 10,000 or 30,000 steps a day.”

Derian House corporate partnerships manager Abi Williamson said: “We are incredibly grateful to World Travel Holdings for their continued support, even more so in these difficult times.

“This year has been a real struggle financially due to the cancellation of traditional fundraising events.

“It’s amazing to see our supporters thinking out of the box and coming up with inventive ways to raise money for our charity.”
