BA says technical issue affecting Heathrow flights ‘resolved’

British Airways has resolved a technical issue which caused operational delays at Heathrow airport this afternoon.

It follows reports of long queues at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and passengers being unable to check-in because of a global IT systems failure.

In a statement the airline said the problem was now fixed and flight operations were being resumed. It is the second time this month the carrier has been affected by a technical failure at Heathrow.

BA said: “We experienced a technical issue for a short time this afternoon which affected our operation at Heathrow Terminal 5.

“This has now been resolved and we’re resuming flight operations. We’ve apologised to those customers who have been inconvenienced.”

Heathrow airport said it was working with the airline to help affected passengers and advised travellers to check their flight status with BA before travelling to the airport.

A spokesperson said: “A technical issue which affected British Airways this afternoon has now been resolved. We are working with our airport partners to assist passengers whose journeys have been disrupted and have deployed additional resource in our terminals.

“Passengers are still advised to check their flight status with BA before travelling to the airport due to a number of resulting cancellations. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Earlier this month the airline apologised for an IT systems failure which grounded all its short-haul flights at Heathrow airport.

According to the Daily Mail, the airline said earlier this week that it has “slightly reduced” its schedule between now and the end of May, because of issues with IT problems and staffing levels.
