Israel creates travel jobs website to tackle ‘severe’ staff shortages

A dedicated jobs website is being created by the Israel  tourism and transport ministries in a bid to tackle the shortage of employees in tourism and aviation.

Companies and business owners working in tourism, aviation, transport, border control and other areas relevant to the tourism industry are being urged to publish their vacancies on the site.

It will publish a description of the position, the area in the country in which it is offered and will include a link to the employer’s website for more details.

An accompanying marketing campaign will encourage the public to consider job offers in the industry.

The return of foreign tourists to Israel has seen huge congestion at the country’s gateway Ben Gurion airport against a backdrop of a severe shortage of employees.

This is adversely affecting the quality of service and even leading to a rise in prices, the Israel Government Tourist Office warned.

A ministry of tourism survey among hotels in Israel, found about 80 showing interest in assistance in recruiting employees for a variety of jobs via a dedicated website.

Many enquiries have been received from companies in the tourism sector also suffering from staff shortages.

Tourism minister Yoel Razvozov commented: “The lines in Ben Gurion airport, the standard of service in hotels that has been affected and many other problems caused by the shortage of employees, demands of us creative solutions.

“Therefore, together with my friend, the minister of transport Merav Michaeli, we are embarking on a process that will connect the public to vacant jobs in tourism-related industries, such as aviation and border control.”
