Package holidays preferred by many for bucket list trips, poll shows

More than third of consumers plan to splash out on one bucket list holiday in 2023 after three years of Covid travel restrictions and disruption.

A poll of 2,000 UK adults found that 38% are determined to go on a once in a lifetime trip this summer, with the average holidaymaker planning at least two getaways this year.

Those aged 18–24 are most set on embarking on a dream trip, with 76% planning to take a bucket list holiday, against just 21% of over 65s.

People are most likely to opt for a package holiday (41%) in comparison to booking each element individually (32%).

Nearly two thirds (63%) of those who prefer package holidays said the easier booking process is what attracts them, while 56% like the fact their trip will be financially protected.

More than half (55%) are attracted to the idea that everything will be taken care of for them and 45% choose packages because they are more cost effective.

Escaping the doom and gloom of the UK is one of the main incentives for people preparing to enjoy a dream holiday in 2023, with nearly half (48%) of respondents admitting this, according to the research by OTA loveholidays.

Two in five (41%) say it is because the pandemic got in the way of being able to enjoy an ultimate holiday, while 49% are keen to explore new destinations and experiences.

The ideal summer holiday duration is 10 days with Italy the top choice destination, followed by the Maldives, Greece and the US.

Loveholidays chief marketing officer Al Murray said: “Package holidays allow people to relax in the knowledge that everything has been organised for them, so it’s little surprise they are proving so popular.

“People want a booking process that is smooth and simple, and by booking everything at once, they can rest assured knowing they won’t face any expensive surprises when the time for their holiday arrives.”
