‘Multiple bids’ target Crystal Cruises fleet

A cruise line group is understood to have made a bid for a slice of the Crystal Cruises portfolio.

Multiple sources told Travel Weekly that a major firm in the sector had expressed interest in the defunct brand, while former Silversea Cruises owner Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio is also believed to have submitted another bid.

It has been widely reported that Lefebvre D’Ovidio had already put in two separate bids for Crystal Cruises, one prior to it being placed in liquidation.

Sources said the sale of Crystal’s assets, which include two ocean ships and an expedition ship, was due imminently, with some expressing surprise that deals had not been announced prior to the annual Seatrade Cruise Global conference in Miami this week.

Expedition ship Crystal Endeavor is said to have attracted the most attention from potential suitors.

Travel Weekly contacted Lefebvre d’Ovidio’s Heritage Group for comment.

Crystal Cruises suspended operations in January amid financial turmoil for its then parent company, Genting Hong Kong.

In February, it was announced Crystal’s US office had closed and V.Ships had taken over the management of its vessels.
