Portugal has extended its Covid rules until August 31, and warned “additional measures” may need to be taken if cases increase in autumn.
The Portuguese council of ministers has extended the state of alert in the country to maintain current rules, including the mask mandate.
Everyone aged 10 and over must wear a mask on public transport, when travelling by air, in taxis and private car hires, and on entry to medical facilities, retirement homes and nursing homes.

As reported in The Portugal News, minister of state for the presidency Mariana Vieira da Silva said: “A resolution was approved that extends the state of the alert throughout the mainland due to the Covid-19 pandemic until August 31, 23.59 hours.”
The minister was then reportedly asked whether rules are likely to be changed after the summer season, to which she warned further measures might be taken.
“When autumn comes, we might have a worsening of the pandemic that may make it necessary to take additional measures,” she said.
Portugal removed all Covid entry restrictions at the beginning of the month, meaning both vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers can enter.
