Travel Counsellors fundraising walk in memory of late colleague

Travel Counsellors is organising a walk in memory of late colleague Gill Peach and to raise funds for charity partner Reuben’s Retreat.

Gill (pictured holding image of Reuben), a Travel Counsellor since 1997, was a strong supporter of Reuben’s Retreat and close friend of founder Nicola Graham and husband Michael.

Travel Counsellors and their friends and families plan to walk 16km on September 4, in and around the grounds of Reuben’s Retreat in Glossop to pay tribute to their respected former colleague, who died in December 2021. Walkers will be offered tours of the charity’s premises to see how far renovations have progressed.

The walk will start at 10.16am – to mark the charity’s 10th anniversary this year and the fact Gill’s branch number was 16.

Travel Counsellors has been supporting Reuben’s Retreat since it was founded in 2012 and named it as its official charity partner four years ago.

It has raised nearly a quarter of a million pounds since then through a variety of events from Burns suppers to race nights plus two 24-hour Reu-athon webcasts hosted by the company’s in-house TV studio.

Gill was a regular at Reuben’s Retreat fundraising events, including its annual Snowdon Sunrise walk.

Travel Counsellors chief executive Steve Byrne said: “We are very proud to have supported the amazing project that is Reuben’s Retreat for many years, coming together again as a strong community of Travel Counsellors to congratulate Reuben’s Retreat on their important milestone, and in memory of Gill Peach, who is dearly missed. We hope to see many TCs and their family and friends joining us on September 4.”

Reuben’s Retreat founder Nicola Graham said: “On our 10th anniversary, we celebrate how our project has been built on love, compassion and generosity, and Gill really was the epitome of this so it’s amazing to be able to do this in her honour.

“Fundraising campaigns, such as this one organised by Travel Counsellors, are the reason why Reuben’s Retreat is able to continue providing a safe haven for grieving families and for those with poorly children.”
