G Adventures boss to host show on Travel.Radio

G Adventures managing director, and Atas chairman, Brian Young is to host a new show on industry radio station Travel.Radio.

The Adventure Hour is due to start this weekend and will run on Saturdays at 10am within the Travel Zone show.

It will explore the best in adventure travel from first-hand reviews, interviews with experts, listener stories, competitions and music.

Young told Travel Weekly: “The Adventure Hour will also work to raise awareness among agents and travellers around the adventure sector as a whole, overcoming misconceptions and highlighting the benefits of small-group adventures as travel reopens.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done to educate agents and travellers about adventure travel and what it really represents.”

He added: “Whether it’s a food tour in Hanoi, a sailing trip around Cuba, hiking in Ibiza or something really wild like living with a local community in the Amazon jungle, adventure spans so many types of experiences and travel styles.

“We are seeing trends at the moment, after months of lockdown, towards more active travel, wellness trips and bucket-list experiences. It’s clear that as travel begins to reopen and people look to make the most of their precious holiday time, there’s a key place at the table for adventure to deliver on those dreams.

“Until we are able to travel again, The Adventure Hour will bring those travel memories, unique moments and expert opinions to people’s homes over the next twelve weeks.”

The Adventure hour will also have a focus on music. Young said: “Music and travel have always gone hand in hand for me. Whether it’s hearing a beat or the lyrics of a song from years ago, music evokes memories of experiences we’ve had while exploring the world.”

Young’s first show will feature travel journalists Jamie Lafferty and Sarah Marshall, while Travel Weekly editor-in-chief Lucy Huxley will be his first guest facing a quick-fire round of ‘Travel Trivia’.

Debbie Henley, chief executive of Travel.Radio, said: “We are delighted G Adventures is coming on board with Travel.Radio, and would like to welcome Brian to our presenting team. He will bring an exciting new complimentary dimension to the Travel Zone for our listeners, who tune in from all parts of the travel trade as well as the general travelling public.

“The company has its own unique style and brand with a global reach and I’m personally looking forward to hearing more about what they have to offer – plus learning more about Brian’s taste in music!”
