Charitable accessible travel organisation Enable My Trip is to shut this week after struggling to find volunteers to handle an “exponentially” higher workload.
A message issued by its board of trustees said the decision to wind up the charity had been made with a “heavy heart” after careful consideration and an exhaustive review.
The Bournemouth-based business will close tomorrow (Friday), founder director Simon Miller confirmed.
Formed as a charity to establish a connection between travel services and accommodation providers, and those with limited mobility, Enable My Trip was createded to encourage, empower, and inspire individuals with mobility challenges to “get out and explore the world”.
The trustees said in note on the organisation’s website: “This decision has not been taken lightly. Over the last seven years, we have operated with a steadfast commitment to our core values and our founding vision.
“We are incredibly proud of how far we have come, having successfully extended our coverage and spread this vital message to communities both across the UK and overseas.
“However, the world of accessible travel is uniquely complex. Delivering an information service that is both thoroughly reliable and easily searchable requires an immense attention to detail and an extraordinary number of man-hours.
“As we have strived to continuously improve our services, keep up with social media, and ensure that we remain highly visible to those who need us most, our workload has increased exponentially.
“To sustain Enable My Trip and maintain the high standards of service our community deserves, we required a dedicated, consistent team of volunteers.
“Despite our best efforts, these essential resources have simply not been forthcoming.
“Without the necessary human infrastructure to manage this ever-growing demand, as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, we can no longer viably continue our operations.”
The decision to close had been made “with a heavy heart, but a profound sense of pride”.
The trustees added: “As we prepare to close this chapter, we want to express our deepest gratitude.
“To our internal team, thank you for your tireless dedication and passion. To our external stakeholders - including the many accommodation providers and the wider travel trade - we have immensely appreciated the constant encouragement, partnership, and support
you have given us over the years.
“While Enable My Trip is coming to an end, we hope that the legacy of our work lives on through the venues we have influenced and the travellers we have inspired.
“Thank you for being a part of our journey and for helping us make the world a more accessible place for seven wonderful years.”
