EasyJet is adding more connections to Morocco next winter with the introduction of a new base in Marrakech.
Newcastle will be among six new routes to Marrakech, while Birmingham gains a service to Agadir.
The three-aircraft base at Marrakech is part of the long-term partnership between the budget carrier and the Moroccan National Tourist Office signed last autumn.
It will allow the airline to offer a record four million seats in the first year of the base opening.
The new routes bring the total network to Morocco to 58, including 30 to Marrakech.
The airline’s growth in the North African country comes as Morocco continues to be one of the fastest-growing markets for packages offered by easyJet holidays, with more than 70 hotels alone offered in Marrakech, including new Luxury Collection properties.
The Newcastle–Marrakech route will be operated twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays from November 3. Birmingham–Agadir flights go on sale later this spring, according to the airline.
Chief executive Kenton Jarvis said: “We couldn’t be happier to launch our base in Morocco for our 20th year of operations in the country and to mark the milestone of 20 million passengers flown over that time.
“This is a milestone for our development in the region, providing more travel opportunities than ever before for our airline and holidays customers, while contributing to the local economy through tourism and the jobs we are creating.”
