Thailand will reduce the visa-exempt period for eligible travellers from the UK and Ireland from 60 days to 30 days from September 15.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand in the UK &and Ireland is advising travel agents to ensure customers are aware of the updated permitted stay when planning and booking trips to Thailand.
The new rule also applies to 58 other countries and territories and follows the replacement of the current 60-day visa exemption scheme.
For UK and Irish travellers entering Thailand from September 15, the new 30-day visa exemption will apply for tourism purposes.
Travellers who enter Thailand before the new measures take effect will retain the period of stay granted to them at the time of entry.
Worapa Angkhasirisap, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in the UK and Ireland, said: “For travellers from the UK and Ireland, the changes are expected to have little impact on holidays as most British and Irish visitors travel to Thailand for two to three weeks.
“They will continue to enjoy 30-day visa-exempt travel once the revised measures take effect.
“Those planning longer stays should check the latest entry requirements with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate before travelling to ensure they have the most appropriate visa for the duration of their itinerary.”
Thailand extended its visa exemption for UK visitors from 30 days to 60 days in summer 2024.
Last month, Thailand launched the Thailand Immigration Management (THIM) mobile app following a trial period.
The optional app enables travellers to complete their mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) registration more quickly by scanning passport details, storing travel information and registering groups of up to 10 people.
