Former Blackadder star Tim McInnerny talks to Travel Weekly about his favourite destinations, holiday activities and travelling companions

How many holidays do you take a year?

Usually one in the UK and one abroad, depending on work. Filming also takes me to far-flung locations. I’m off to South Africa to film a new BBC drama about the English civil war, with the Cape standing in for 17th century Oxfordshire.

Do you book your holidays with a travel agent or online?

Often online but we also have the wonderful Glen at Stateside Travel.

What was your best holiday and why?

I just came back from the Nisbet Plantation on Nevis – utterly beautiful and relaxing. The Datai resort in Langkawi, Malaysia, was amazing.

Where do you still want to go?

Madagascar to see the white lemurs. Cuba to drink daiquiris in Hemingway’s old haunts and a return to Greece.

What’s a typical day on holiday?

Breakfast, the hammock, reading, lunch, the hammock, reading, a quick swim, daiquiri, dinner, daiquiri. I usually take about a dozen books with me.

Who is your best holiday companion?

My partner, Annie, a designer.

What was your worst holiday experience?

Theoretically it would be seeing a spider, but that hasn’t happened yet. So that leaves filming in Antigua in very high August humidity, wearing a wig and costume in the day, then returning to a hotel with no air conditioning.
