Spain’s efforts to tackle overtourism amid local protests will be discussed at Abta’s Travel Convention in Majorca.
A session at the event in Calvia on October 6-8 will address the challenges of integrated destination management and explore “innovative strategies” for a more sustainable future.
Delegates will hear from the destination on the progress being made within Calvia and across Spain to build this new model.
Industry leaders will share insights including case studies, collaborative approaches, innovative ideas and actionable solutions.
Abta said: “Protests about overtourism are sending a clear message that we need a new model for tourism that balances the interests of all stakeholders - destinations, travel providers, travellers, local businesses, and residents - as well as the preservation of natural and cultural heritage.”
This year’s event will allow delegates to see how the Calvia area has changed over the past decade following significant investment and development.
