Holidaybreak is believed to have held talks with Explore Worldwide after announcing that it is looking to buy specialist operators. Explore’s operations director Derek Moore said: “Holidaybreak is looking to buy a company, but we currently have no deal.” Holidaybreak refused to comment.
n debonair £20m loss
Debonair’s creditors look likely to receive just 1% of the airline’s debts. Deloitte and Touche are expected to announce today that most of the carrier’s assets will be used to pay employees’ salaries, banks, Customs and Excise and the Inland Revenue, leaving creditors with a total £20m loss.

Star Cruises has acquired a 20.6% stake in Norwegian Cruise Line. The deal comes after NCLrejected a $1.7bn bid by Carnival Corporation to buy the company and after NCLwas approached by Premier Cruises about a merger.

The English Tourism Council has appointed Mary Lynch as chief executive. Lynch, who is regional manager Australasia for the British Tourist Authority, will start on April 1, 2000.
