Aer Lingus introduces charge for carry-on luggage

Most Aer Lingus passengers cannot take a free carry-on bag weighing up to 10kg on a flight, under changes to the airline’s baggage rules.

The new luggage policy applies to services in Europe, including the UK, and will apply to customers travelling from June 29 onwards.

It means passengers who want to have their carry-on baggage in the cabin with them must now purchase priority boarding priced from €5.99/£5.99.

They can still take a 10kg bag for free, by dropping it off at the airport check-in to be stored in the hold of the plane.

A carry-on bag with priority boarding is included for some customers, such as Silver, Platinum and Concierge AerClub members; bookings made with Plus, Advantage and Aer Space fare types; the accompanying adult travelling with an infant; and customers connecting to/from an Aer Lingus transatlantic flight or a connecting flight with an interline partner.

Passengers who have not purchased a carry-on bag with priority boarding, or if it is not included in their fare, will be charged a €35 fee to place the bag in the aircraft hold.

A small personal item such as a handbag or laptop can be carried on board free of charge, but it must be small enough to fit under the seat in front.
