Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve (pictured above) is the largest in the southern hemisphere. Located on New Zealand’s South Island, this protected area encompasses Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park and the Mackenzie Basin, with clear and dark skies.

Australia’s secluded Lord Howe Island, a short flight from Sydney, will host its second dark sky festival next May. Visitors can enjoy astronomy talks, astrophotography workshops, yoga under the stars and a children’s rocket science workshop.
There are also telescope sessions with local experts, who help identify celestial bodies, plus dining, live music and dancing.

The Wintjiri Wiru After Dark experience at Uluru is a light-and-sound show telling the story of the Anangu people, using drones, lasers and projections. Each October, more than 1,200 drones illuminate the night sky against the backdrop of Uluru, accompanied by storytelling and a gourmet picnic with Australian wines.
