Caribbean: Belize update – 31 Aug 2007

Belize has great beaches, magnificent underwater landscapes and tropical jungles, ideal for adventure seekers.

The destination is best known for being home to the longest barrier reef in the western hemisphere, so it’s a natural choice for divers.

Since January, Belize’s range of accommodation has increased significantly, with more locally owned and operated resorts. These include:

One of Belize’s newest attractions is the country’s first and only Dolphin Encounter programme at Belize Adventure Lodge on the private island, Spanish Lookout Caye.

Home to four Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, the programme is located in a natural four-acre lagoon and aims to offer a fun and educational interaction with dolphins, as well as a greater understanding of these mammals.

Belize is a fascinating blend of Spanish, English and Creole cultures and is perfect for active travellers and culture enthusiasts.

Belize is on the Central American mainland, bordered by Mexico to the north and Guatemala to the south and west. The Caribbean Sea borders its 175-mile coastline to the east.

Climate: The heaviest rainfall is from May to November. Average temperatures are between 24C and 28C.
