Rani Resorts is preparing to reopen its Mozambique resort Indigo Bay for the second time in six months.

Indigo Bay, on Bazaruto Island off the coast of Mozambique, had undergone a major refurbishment and was ready to reopen in February when a tropical cyclone struck the island. The resort will now reopen this month.

Rani has also announced plans for a resort on Paradise Island, in the same archipelago as Indigo Bay. Work will begin on a 50-room hotel in early 2008.

Also known as Ilha Santa Carolina, the island was popular in the 1950s and 1960s when Mozambique was still a Portuguese territory. Rani Resorts managing director John McMillan said the new property would try to recapture the retro style of its heyday.

Paradise Island will be Rani Resorts’ seventh property. The luxury specialist owns five resorts in Mozambique and one boutique hotel, The Stanley and Livingstone, at Victoria Falls.
