Ship review: Norwegian Luna, Norwegian Cruise Line

Overview: The 3,565-passenger Norwegian Luna is the21st addition to the NCL fleet and second in the Prima Plus Class, alongside sister Aqua. They have more space, bigger outdoor areas and increased capacity due to it being 22m longer than the rest of the Prima Class.

This ship offers a good balance of facilities: if clients want high energy, adrenaline and excitement, they’ll find it, but the space means they can seek out a quieter spot too. The ship is contemporary in design and aimed at couples, families (particularly multigenerational) and groups.

Cabins: Accommodation spans Solo, Inside, Oceanview and Balcony cabins, plus Suites in The Haven, the upscale ‘ship within a ship’ area. My Balcony Suite in The Haven was generous, with a seating area, a divinely comfortable bed, balcony with table and two chairs, and ample storage.

It also came with a fridge and coffee machine, bathroom with double-width sink, walk-in shower and a dressing table with amazing lighting. On the upside, there were more USB plug sockets than ever, but the downside was water priced at $5 a can.

Food and drink: There are 17 dining venues: a mix of complimentary options such as always-buzzing Indulge Court, where you order on an iPad from a range of cuisines, to speciality restaurants where there is a surcharge.

I tried authentic Thai food in Sukhothai, upscale Italian at Onda by Scarpetta and the excellent Cagney’s Steakhouse. Los Lobos (Mexican) and Hasuki (teppanyaki) also make a welcome return, while Soleil Bar on deck eight is hard to beat for a sundowner.
