1. Argos in Cappadocia

A 20-year restoration project has transformed a 2,000-year-old historical network of ancient ruins, caves and tunnels into this luxury hotel, which features local materials, furnishings and craftsmanship across its 51 unique rooms and suites.

A raft of eco initiatives bagged it a ’Best Sustainable Hotel for Europe’ accolade, while a community programme helps local people develop skills to enhance long-term employment prospects.

Construction is of reclaimed and recycled materials, including wood and bricks from ancient Anatolian houses, and the resort is pursuing a range of sustainability initiatives to achieve its stated aim of zero waste.

This expansive adult-only beachfront resort in Antalya – complete with three pools and several bars including a beach bar and a disco – has been making strides on its sustainability and social responsibility paths in the past year, investing in solar energy and reducing plastics, as well as engaging in local sustainability programmes and planning better use of natural resources.
