Comment: ‘Take Off’ nurtures bright young talent

As World Travel Market drew to a close last week, it was great to see hundreds of travel and tourism students walking away from the Future You conference holding copies of the 2014 edition of Take Off in Travel, produced by Travel Weekly.

The idea for Take Off in Travel came about last year following numerous conversations and conference sessions where speakers noted that the size and influence of the travel and tourism sectors weren't being acknowledged, and the industry was missing out on bright new talent as a result.

 

I am delighted that this second edition of Take Off in Travel has once again received the support of many of the leading companies and organisations in the industry.

 

Abta, People 1st and Travel Uni are on board again as partners, and we had more companies than last year taking the opportunity to include company profiles to demonstrate their commitment to the recruitment, training and development of their staff.

 

The fact that Sir Richard Branson again lent his support to the publication also spoke volumes about its importance and relevance to our industry.

 

We are blessed with many bright talents in travel, both ?young and old, but we all need to do more to make sure that the industry is seen as a viable launch pad for rewarding careers for the rising stars of the future.

 

The initial response to this year's Take Off in Travel has been fantastic. I'd urge you all to read more on page 14 and help shout from the rooftops about the amazing opportunities on offer in this great industry.
