The Jamaica-based businessman said it is unfair how the tax is calculated. "Taxes at a time when the economy is bad is poor policy," he said.
"This is a time when you should be rolling back taxes when you want to get your economy working. It is a poor policy and a bad strategy."
He said despite these concerns and the economic climate, Sandals is exceeding expectations, although people are booking later.
He admitted the company has offered favourable pricing, but said: "Every hotel is full. The brand is strong and demand is too. I was concerned earlier in the year and I thought by March there would be a decline."
However, he is predicting April will be a strong month for the company.
