Travel Counsellors to hold roadshows to recruit HWT staff

Travel Counsellors is to host roadshows in a bid to recruit some of the 80 Harvey World Travel staff who have lost their jobs.

The company, which has a network of home-based travel agents, said it wanted to give some hope to people left out of work after HWT went into administration on June 5.

Administrators Tenon Recovery closed 16 of the poorest-performing HWT shops on June 10, leading to 80 redundancies. It admitted further job losses are possible.

Travel Counsellors immediately contacted the administrators and has set up recruitment roadshows in Exeter on June 18, and in Norwich on June 25.

Managing director Steve Byrne said: “Obviously it’s very early days, but we felt it was important to let the staff affected by the Harvey World redundancies know that there is still a future working in the industry they love.

“The success of many of our Travel Counsellors, some of whom joined us because they also faced redundancy, shows that this could be a positive turning point for the best agents, and that it is possible to thrive, even in today’s economic climate, as well as enjoying all of the other benefits that working from home provides.”
