The International Air Transport Association has cut the forecast for airline industry profits by a third as a result of rising fuel costs and the credit crunch. IATA predicted profits of £2.4 billion in 2008.

Budget airlines could be forced to give passengers up to two inches of extra legroom. The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee called for the minimum distance to be increased to 28.2in.

A Ryanair bikini calendar has provoked complaints from the Institute of Women in Spain. They are to report the calendar to EU and Irish authorities for “representing flight attendants as sexual objects”.
