Turkey and Goa specialist Jewel in the Crown Holidays has today ceased trading and gone into liquidation.

The company, based in Crawley, which has been trading for 29 years, had an annual capacity of 18,000 passengers to Turkey.

The company said in a statement: “It is with great regret that we have to advise that Jewel in the Crown Holidays Ltd (www.jewelholidays.com) is ceasing to trade on Friday April 1.

“The business to Turkey has been challenging for the last two years. We had hoped that the political situation in Turkey would improve but sadly this has not happened.

“We can confirm that there are currently no passengers overseas.

“The directors of Jewel in the Crown Holidays (also trading as Jewel of Turkey and Jewel of Goa) would like to apologise to both our UK and overseas staff, our loyal clients, our UK travel agents, our hoteliers and our overseas agents, and thank them for all their help.

“There are some forward bookings for summer 2016 but unfortunately these holidays cannot be honoured by the company as recent negotiations with flight suppliers have not been successful.”

Customers or agents holding bookings can submit a claim for monies paid to either ATOL (reference 3906) or their credit card providers (if applicable).

For further information in respect of ATOL claims visit caa.co.uk/atol-protection.

The company is to enter liquidation and creditors will be notified in due course by the proposed liquidators whose contact details are Richard Keley and Andy Pear, BM Advisory, on 01293 41033 or info@bm-advisory.com.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said travel agents who hold bookings with Jewel In The Crown Holidays are advised not to refund consumers with any monies they are currently holding.

Travel agents will be contacted by the CAA individually with specific instructions for these bookings.

The CAA added it is working to collate information and will publish a claim form for ATOL protected consumers.
