Two Air Transat pilots arrested at Glasgow airport

Two pilots are reported to have been arrested at Glasgow airport in relation to being allegedly impaired through alcohol.

The BBC reported that it understood they were a captain and first officer of the Canadian airline Air Transat.

 

 

The Airbus A310 was due to fly from Glasgow to Toronto on Monday afternoon with 345 passengers and nine crew on board.

 

 

The men, aged 39 and 37, were arrested under the Railways and Transport Safety Act after staff were understood to have raised concerns about the pilots’ behaviour.

 

 

They are due to appear at Paisley sheriff court.

 

 

The Canadian airline confirmed the arrest of its employees, adding that the flight had been rescheduled and the passengers put up in hotels.

 

 

A spokesman said: “Air Transat has learned of the arrest on July 18 of two crew members assigned to its Glasgow-Toronto flight.

 

 

“We will await the results of the investigation and judicial proceedings before commenting on the matter before making any further comments.

 

 

“The safety of our crews and passengers is, and will remain, a top priority at Air Transat.”

 

 

A rescheduled flight is expected to depart today (Tuesday).
