Where: this principality is split between Soldeu in the east and Arinsal, La Massana and Ordino in the west.
Ambience: the mountains are wild and rugged – great hiking territory. It is also suitable for ramblers. As a duty-free province, the prices are a big advantage.
Wild activities: the Grand Randonee (GR)10 is the most famous route through the Pyrenees. Exodus offers a 15-day GR 10 tour leading in at £729. The walk covers almost 125 miles of the route's most central section. Accommodation is in campsites, mountain huts and hotels. For a tougher trek, the eight-day Haute Pyrenees tour takes the high route through the mountains, and includes an ascent of Pico Aneto. The tour leads in at £529.
mild activities: the western side of the principality is the quietest – Soldeu in the east has a main road running through it. The Pyrenees are home to much flora and fauna, and both Arinsal and Soldeu are good territory for ramblers and hikers. The Little Yellow Train excursion is sold by all the major operators for between £20-£30.
