Abta LifeLine has seen applications so far this year almost triple compared with the same period last year, reflecting the growing pressures facing people across the travel industry.
The trade charity said demand has come from individuals and families experiencing a wide range of challenges, including financial hardship, debt, serious illness, domestic violence, mobility issues and appliance poverty – the inability to access essential household appliances.
Abta LifeLine is urging businesses and individuals across the industry to support colleagues in need by making donations, buying tickets for events or joining fundraising efforts.

Trudie Clements, Abta LifeLine director, said: “We’re seeing a clear shift in the level of need.
“One of the drivers appears to be ongoing cost of living pressures, which continue to hit travel professionals hard.
“People are coming to us earlier, and with more complex challenges, and we want them to know that Lifeline is here for them.
“We’ve already surpassed the number of applications we received in the whole of last year.
“The rise in applications presents a further challenge for the charity – securing the vital funds needed to meet growing demand for our services. And that’s where we need industry support.”
Upcoming events include the Abta LifeLine Dinner, sponsored by Everywhen, on September 9 at the RAF Club in Mayfair. The evening includes a three-course dinner, entertainment, auction and raffle in support of the charity.
Trade professionals can also sign up for the Madeira Challenge (October 9-14), a four-day fundraiser that coincides with Abta’s Travel Convention.
Furthermore, the charity has its ‘£2 Per Employee Appeal’, urging companies to make an annual contribution of £2 per employee.
