BRITISH Airways said it is "working through” the backlog of passengers at Heathrow following the cancellation of 30 flights.
The carrier hopes to clear the backlog by the end of today after around 5,000 passengers were left stranded at the airport.
Staff shortages and technical problems to aircraft forced the carrier to start canceling flights from early yesterday (August 23).
A BA statement said: "We are making all efforts to ensure that affected customers are assisted and apologise sincerely for any inconvenience caused.
"August is the busiest period of the period of the year for us and resources at Heathrow are stretched and this is being compounded by a number of technical problems that we experienced with aircraft yesterday.”
A spokesman said the carrier expected no more flights to be cancelled.
