BA to hold crisis talks after walkout

BRITISH Airways is to hold crisis talks with unions today in a bid to end the industrial action that brought chaos to Heathrow at the weekend.

Almost 100,000 passengers were caught up in a walkout by BA check-in and ticket staff who were complaining about changes to working practices and the introduction of an electronic ‘clocking in’ system. The carrier had to cancel more than 500 flights.

The unofficial strike, which came on one of the year’s busiest weekends with the start of the school holidays, is thought to have cost BA around £60 million in lost turnover.

BA flights in and out of Terminal 1 have now returned to normal, although there is still a backlog of passengers waiting to travel.
