BA to make mandatory e-ticket move

BRITISH Airways has confirmed it will move to mandatory e-tickets on all routes by the end of next year.

From April 1 BA will stop issuing paper tickets on the 72% of its routes that are currently e-ticketable.

Agents can still issue a paper ticket, but they will be hit with an £25 Agency Debit Memo for doing so.

There will be some exceptions because not all tickets are e-ticketable, for example on interline routes.

BA is also looking to bring in e-tickets for operator seat allocations and consolidators by April.

BA head of UK sales Tiffany Hall said agents are ready for the move. “Some agents are already issuing more than 90% of tickets electronically,” she said.

ABTA welcomed the move but wanted to clarify details on refunding and where travellers change airlines.
