Britons advised against all but essential travel to Bahrain and Kuwait

British travellers are being advised against all bit essential travel to Bahrain and Kuwait.

The stricter Foreign Office advice for both Gulf countries follows earlier alerts over travel to a range of Middle East nations plus Cyprus and Turkey following the 12th consecutive night of attacks between the US and Iran.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) now warns of a risk of more attacks and “unforeseen escalation” in the region as part of its revised advice for Bahrain and Kuwait.

Referring to Bahrain (pictured), the FCDO said: “On 20 July, the US Embassy Manama issued an advisory that Iran may seek to target unspecified locations in central Manama [capital of Bahrain].

“Before the ceasefire, the Iranian regime had stated its intention to target locations associated with the US and Israel, including organisations, businesses, facilities, and institutions.”

The updated advisory for Kuwait says: “Since 8 July there have been strikes and retaliatory attacks by Iran in a number of locations across the region, including Kuwait, against US military and civilian infrastructure.

“There is a risk of more attacks and unforeseen escalation in the region. 

“British nationals currently in the Middle East should be prepared for possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions.”

Kuwait International Airport is currently operating through Terminals 4 and 5, serving Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways, while Terminal 1 remains closed. 

“Flight schedules are reduced. Check details with your airline before travelling and follow local guidance,” the FCDO added.
