AIRLINES could face increased passenger service and landing charges at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester if proposals by the Civil Aviation Authority are adopted.
The CAA, which has the power to cap the charges to stop the airport’s abusing their dominant positions in the market, has recommended price caps to the Competition Commission.
If adopted then over the next five years charges per passenger at Heathrow, currently £5.23, could increase by £2, Heathrow, currently £4.06, by £1, and Stansted, currently £4.36, by £1.70. Charges at Manchester would remain at around £6.60.
The CAA wants the airport operators to increase investment in their facilities.
