The travel industry has been urged to adopt ground-breaking invoicing technology developed by the big four, which will cut paperwork and enable agents to spend more time selling.
The AXS Point system, developed with the big four by technology firm AXS One, stores invoices for six years and allows agents to give customers instant holiday invoices from tour operators. Previously holidaymakers could have to wait more than two weeks to receive confirmation of their booking as the agent would wait a week for the invoice from the operator.
This week, a further 1,000 agents have started using the technology, taking the total number to more than 4,200. The retailers come from the big four’s shop network, Travelcare, Travel Counsellors and TV Travel Shop.
A number of operators are set to join the big four and Libra Holidays on the system in the next three months, including Kosmar, Olympic Holidays and Seligo.
TUI UK head of third party sales Jeanne Lally said the system slashes agent and operator administration time and could lead to significant cost savings.
"The system gives agents more time to sell as it cuts down on administration,” she said. "Invoicing can be a nightmare process, there can be up to 700 invoices in the post from operators every morning.”
