Canadian Airline unveils currency service

canadian Airlines has become the first airline to enter the foreign currency market following the launch of an in-flight currency exchange service on its Vancouver flights to Hong Kong, Taipei and Japan.

 

Vice-president and general manager SkyTeller Destination Currency Exchange In-Flight Services Bob Drab said: "Passengers can buy destination currency at competitive rates while in flight and avoid the queues at foreign currency outlets.”

 

Drab said airlines will gain access to a new revenue stream based on monthly commissions.

 

Around 25 passengers per flight are currently using the service. "Once we begin marketing it and it gets rolled out on to other flights, we expect this figure to rise by at least 15%,” said a spokesperson.

 

An agreement with a major carrier is expected to be announced soon.
