Carrier woos trade as Gatwick gains new ‘game-changer’ Africa air link 

A new air service between London and Uganda is being hailed as opening up “significant opportunities” for agents and operators to promote the African country.

The Uganda Airlines route between Gatwick and Entebbe starting next week is designed to capitalise on growing consumer interest in authentic, sustainable travel.

The airline is targeting wildlife and adventure travellers, safari-goers, high-end eco-tourists, diaspora and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) markets.

Flights will operate by a new generation Airbus A330-800neo with 20 business class seats, 28 in premium economy and 201 in economy, "tailored for comfort on long-haul journeys".

The service will run four times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from May 18 with fares starting at £553.

Uganda Airlines said it was “committed to trade engagement” and was developing agent training and fam trips.

Nett fares and commission structures are being made available together with group bookings and seat allocations on the flights. 

Convenient departure and arrival times, include day and night flights that provide seamless onward connections to 14 destinations throughout sub-Sharan Africa. 

Uganda Airlines described the new route as opening up “significant opportunities” for UK travel agents and tour operators to promote the country as a fast-growing, experience-led destination.

“Uganda offers a compelling combination of world-class wildlife experiences, cultural richness, and untapped adventure tourism potential.

“The launch offers an ideal opportunity for the UK trade to build new product, refresh East Africa offerings, and market Uganda as a premium, off-the-beaten-track destination.” 

The carrier’s chief executive Jennifer Bamuturaki added: “Direct connectivity is a game-changer for Uganda’s inbound tourism.
