A dedicated phone number has been set up for anyone affected by a Swiss ski resort bar fire which killed 40 and left 115 injured.
Authorities are carrying out investigations into "the exact circumstances" of the incident in the early hours of January 1 at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana packed with New Year’s Eve revellers.
Sixty people are reported to be treated in hospital in Sion and elsewhere.
The bar was described locally as being popular with young people and many of the victims were in their teens.
Swiss president Guy Parmelin described the blaze in Crans Montana "one of the worst tragedies that our country has experienced”.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said in a travel advisory: “Following the fire in Crans-Montana on 1 January, the Swiss authorities have opened a dedicated phone number for Swiss and foreign nationals affected by this incident.
"Swiss authorities recommend that people seek to contact loved ones on all available channels (email, social media, phone) before attempting to call.
“You can call +41 848 112 117. You may be asked for proof of kinship if you ask for information about your close family.”
A statement from the Crans-Montana Tourist Office issued with the attached image said: "It is with deep sadness and great emotion that we face the tragic events that occurred in our destination during the night of 31 December 2025 to 1 January 2026.
"Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all individuals and emergency services who provided assistance and who continue to do so."
