Disney warns of delays as security is tightened

ney’s US theme parks face heightened security measures and lengthy delays in the wake of last week’s terrorist attacks.

Disney plans to introduce metal detectors and possibly x-ray scanning machines at entrances to Walt Disney World in Orlando and Disneyland in California.

Both theme parks were closed for 24 hours in the aftermath of the attacks in New York and Washington.

A spokeswoman said: “We are checking guests’ bags as they come into the parks and in some places customers may see metal detectors and scanning machines. It may take a little longer to get into the parks, but I think our visitors will appreciate what we are doing and why we are doing it.”

The company said its 100^th birthday celebrations of founder Walt Disney, scheduled at both parks on October 1, will go ahead.
