EasyJet Half-Year Loss ‘In Line With Expectations’

EasyJet said the widening of its first half loss is in line with expectations, with profits expected to continue to be below last year's results.

The low-cost airline, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, reported a seasonal pre-tax loss of £22 million in the six months to March 31, compared to £19 million last year.

Passenger numbers were up 25% to 13.5 million, with total revenue per passenger up 1.1%. Revenues were up by 26% to £553 million.

Outgoing chief executive Ray Webster, who announced his departure last week, said the airline had managed to mitigate the impact of higher fuel prices.

He added: "At prevailing fuel prices and exchange rates, we continue to expect reported pre-tax profit to be below last year but in line with current expectations.”
