EasyJet sets sights on record summer with 80,000 peak flights

EasyJet and EasyJet holidays are preparing for their largest-ever summer programme, with the airline scheduled to operate more than 80,000 flights across its network during the school holiday period.

The carrier will operate more than 380,000 flights across the wider summer season. To support the expansion, eight additional Airbus A320 family aircraft have been deployed across UK bases in Bristol, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow.

During the school break alone, more than seven million UK passengers are expected to travel on 45,000 flights operating to and from the UK.

The airline’s busiest single day of the summer is projected to fall on Monday, August 31, when about 366,000 customers are scheduled to fly on nearly 2,200 departures.

Total capacity to and from the UK across the full summer season has reached 39 million seats – an increase of half a million compared to last year – supported by the launch of 53 new routes targeting longer-haul leisure destinations including Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco.

Malaga, Palma and Faro lead the bookings as the most popular international destinations for UK departures this summer, while Edinburgh and Belfast top the domestic flying schedule.

EasyJet holidays has also reported record summer volumes, noting that more than a quarter of children travelling on its packages this season are utilising the tour operator’s free child places scheme.

Club Mac Alcudia in Majorca has emerged as the operator’s most popular hotel for the summer, followed by the One Resort Aqua Park in Tunisia.
