EasyJet is ramping up expansion in Morocco with the creation of its first base in Africa in Marrakech from next spring.
Three aircraft will be based at the city’s airport serving 24 destinations and creating 100 new jobs.
A long-term partnership signed with the Moroccan National Tourism Office will allow the budget airline to offer a record four million seats in the first year of opening the base.
Four new routes from mainland Europe, including Hamburg, Lille and Strasbourg, will bring the network up to 46 serving the north African country. Multiple existing routes will also see their frequencies increase in 2026, according to the carrier.
The Marrakech base will also allow easyJet to “unlock capacity and offer new destinations at constrained airports across Europe”.
Chief executive Kenton Jarvis said: “I am delighted to be announcing this historic partnership and the establishment of a new base in Marrakech.
“There is no doubt Morocco is a key market for easyJet: we are the largest carrier to Morocco from the UK and from Switzerland.
“Morocco is our fastest growing market outside Europe and a major destination for our easyJet holidays customers.
"With this new development and the launch of our base in Marrakech we will expand our leisure and business offer to Morocco from more destinations across Europe than ever before.”
