Emirates boss says airline will not take delivery of 10 Boeing aircraft

Emirates president Sir Tim Clark has said the company would refuse to take delivery of 10 new Boeing aircraft following repeated delays due to design modifications.

The Dubai-based airline has a total of 270 of the widebody aircraft on its orderbook.

According to a report in The Telegraph, Clark said the company “was not taking” the first batch of 10 planes as they required so many design changes they were “not fit for purpose”.

Speaking about where Boeing could find a new home for the aircraft, he is reported as saying: “Heinz would be interested – baked bean cans.”

The first 777X jet was built in 2019 and as a result Clark said they were “not up to spec” as they would “need a complete upgrade”, highlighting some failed ground-based stress tests and static test failures.

However, Clark told Reuters he expected Boeing’s 777-9 aircraft to be delivered in the second quarter of 2027 as that jet design moved closer to certification.
