Flight SQ26, which was carrying more than 430 passengers, landed safely at 6.40 am local time after its crew reported a problem with one of the aircraft’s four Rolls-Royce engines about two hours and 55 minutes into its journey, the airline said.
“The crew reported an engine surge in the Number 3 engine and the engine was shut down,” a spokeswoman said.
The A380 is capable of flying on three engines, she told Dow Jones newswire. SIA is looking into the incident, and the engine will be inspected in consultation with its manufacturer.
